PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior
Amelia Brown (Meredith, N.H.) had an impressive day with wins in both singles and doubles action to help Plymouth State University push past Vermont State University Castleton, 7-2, in Little East Conference (LEC) women's tennis action at the Holderness School Courts on Wednesday afternoon.
The Panthers captured the first two doubles matches to spring to a 2-0 lead before Brown and senior
Sarah Asciutto (Manchester Central, Vt.) nabbed an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles to extend the lead.
Plymouth State maintained the advantage by winning three singles matches, with Brown putting the nail in the coffin in a decisive 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 6 singles to push the Panthers to the 7-2 victory. Her two victories on the day keep her undefeated on the season.
Plymouth State shoots up to 4-3 (2-2 LEC), while VTSU Castleton goes to 3-8 (1-5 LEC).

How it Happened:
- The Panthers swept the doubles play with sophomore Alyssa Craigie (Gilford, N.H.) and junior Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) taking No. 1 doubles, 8-3, while the duo of junior Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.) and senior Camilla Puzio (Holden, Mass.) snagging an 8-5 win at No. 2.
- Asciutto and Brown topped off the doubles sweep with an 8-0 shutout at No. 3 to push the lead to 3-0.
- LaBarre continued the momentum into No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 decision.
- Craigie blew out her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 to extend the lead to 5-0.
- After the Spartans answered with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, Puzio and Brown capped the day by winning their respective matches. Puzio took No. 5 singles by a 6-0, 6-3 margin, while Brown didn't drop a game in a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 to account for the 7-2 final.
