WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Sophomore
Payton Schaly (Orillia, Ontario) matched a career-high with a pair of goals to lead Plymouth State University to a 5-2 victory over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey action at Lansing Chapman Rink on the campus of Williams College on Saturday night.
Schaly got off to a hot start when he broke through the opposing defense with the help of sophomore
Will Redick (Collingwood, Ontario) and junior
Connor Tait (Boyds, Md.) and slipped their feeds to the back of the net for the game-opening goal less than 30 seconds into the contest.
The Panthers added two more tallies in the opening five minutes to explode up to a 3-0 lead. MCLA countered late in the period with a pair of goals of its own, including one on the power play, to make it 3-2 going into the middle stanza.
Schaly buried his second score of the game to match a personal best to make it 4-2 in the second, before the Panthers nabbed a power play tally in the third period to close out the 5-2 win.
Plymouth State moves to 4-1-1 (2-0-1 MASCAC), while MCLA goes to 1-2-1 (0-2-1 MASCAC).

How it Happened:
- The scoring started immediately as Schaly scored his first of the night off a feed from Redick just 28 seconds into the first.
- Tait continued the momentum less than a minute later when he launched a shot to the back of the net during a power play to make it 2-0.
- Junior Donte' DiPonio (Trenton, Mich.) extended the early onslaught when he punched in the Panthers' third goal in just over five minutes of action with assists from junior Cam Patton (Truro, Nova Scotia) and freshman Patrick O'Connell (West Chester, Pa.) to make it 3-0.
- The Trailblazers responded in the final minutes of the first with back-to-back goals to make it a one-score game, 3-2, after one.
- Schaly snagged his second of the night halfway through the second to give the Panthers a 4-2 cushion.
- Plymouth State cashed in one final goal when senior Anton Jellvik (Taby, Sweden) smashed in the score during another power play chance to account for the 5-2 final.
By the Numbers:
- Plymouth State was successful on 2-of-7 power plays, while the Trailblazers were 1-for-5.
- Senior Kalle Andersson (Taby, Sweden) made 19 saves between the pipes.
- Schaly had his second career two-goal game.
- Plymouth State outshot MCLA by a 42-21 margin.
- The Panthers controlled the faceoff circle, winning 43-of-70. Senior Jeromey Rancourt (Lewiston, Maine) won 17-of-19, while Jellvik took 11-of-15.
