PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior
Anton Jellvik (Taby, Sweden) scored with just 32 seconds left in overtime to lift #13 Plymouth State University to a 4-3 win over Framingham State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's ice hockey game at Hanaway Rink on Saturday night.
Sophomore
Will Redick (Collingwood, Ontario) potted a pair of power play goals to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead heading into the third period, but Framingham State evened the score just 16 seconds into the third.
It looked like PSU would escape with a regulation win as junior
Josh Kagan (Winnipeg, Manitoba) jumped on a loose puck in the slot and went top shelf with just 1:27 left to play. Framingham State pulled its goalie with 1:14 remaining and the Rams blocked three shots in front of the empty net to keep their chances alive, before sending the puck through the crease to a skater at the back post to tie the game with just three seconds to go.
The overtime period featured back-and-forth action with each team having a golden chance in the opening minute. Sophomore goaltender
Brandon Shantz (San Antonio, Texas) got a piece of a close-range shot during a 2-on-1, and the Panthers raced back the other way on a 3-on-1, but a backhanded bid from senior
Brett Lockhart (Braintree, Mass.) was paddled away by the Rams' goalie.
Lockhart made a big hit in the defensive zone and fired the puck up the half wall to senior
Carson Lanceleve (Stewiacke, Nova Scotia) with less than a minute remaining. Lanceleve carried into the zone and hit Jellvik, who snuck a shot inside the post for the winner.
Plymouth State improves to 5-1-2 (3-0-2 MASCAC), while Framingham State dips to 1-5-0 (1-4-0 MASCAC).
