Jake Dolcimascolo (Georgetown, Mass.) had four points and junior
Owen McNichols (Manchester, N.H.) made 22 saves, but the University of Massachusetts Boston powered past Plymouth State University, 21-6, in the Little East Conference (LEC) opener for both schools at Panther Field on Saturday.
The Panthers got out to a hot start with a pair of goals in the third minute of play, but UMass Boston responded with six straight to take a 6-2 lead into halftime.
Plymouth State opened the third quarter with two man-up goals to cut into the deficit, but the Beacons' offense kicked into another level pouring in 15 second-half tallies to account for the final score.
PSU slips to 7-2 (0-1 LEC) on the season, while UMass Boston, the preseason favorites, improves to 5-3 (1-0 LEC).

How it Happened:
- The Panthers got out to a quick start with sophomore Ryan Collins (Attleboro, Mass.) and classmate Ryan Jones (Tolland, Conn.) scoring just 26 seconds apart.
- UMass Boston roared back closing the frame with five straight scores to lead 5-2 after one.
- The Beacons notched the lone goal of the second period to push the margin to 6-2 at the half.
- Plymouth State took advantage of a Beacons' penalty to score a pair of man-up goals to open the third. Dolcimascolo notched his 17th of the season four minutes in and junior Crosby Fay (Waterville Valley, N.H.) made it a 6-4 margin less than 30 seconds later.
- UMB responded with a 3-0 spurt before Dolcimascolo answered for the Panthers.
- The teams traded goals, with Collins scoring his second of the afternoon to make it a 10-6 game.
- The Beacons' offense erupted from there, exploding for five goals in the final five minutes to lead 15-6 heading into the fourth.
- The visitors closed out the game with six goals in the fourth period to account for the final score.
By the Numbers:
- Dolcimascolo finished with two goals and two assists, while senior Nick Drew (Chelmsford, Mass.) had three assists.
- Collins posted a pair of goals, with Fay tallying a goal and an assist.
- McNichols set another career high with his 22 saves.
- Sophomore Leif Charbonneau (Grafton, Mass.) led the Panthers with five ground balls and added a caused turnover.
- Plymouth State was successful on 21-of-22 clears.
- PSU was 2-for-6 in extra man opportunities, while the Beacons were 2-for-5.
- UMass Boston has won each of the last four meetings, though the Panthers are 23-18 against the Beacons all time.
