PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior
Camilla Puzio (Holden, Mass.) and junior
Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) each won games, but NCAA Division II Saint Anselm College topped Plymouth State University, 9-0, in non-conference women's tennis action at the Bank of New Hampshire Field House at ALLWell North on Tuesday afternoon.
Cardoso began her day alongside sophomore
Alyssa Craigie (Gilford, N.H.), where they took a game in doubles play before ultimately falling by an 8-1 score.
Cardoso continued the fight in singles action, battling to a 6-2, 6-1 setback at No. 4 singles, while Puzio won five games at No. 6 before succumbing, 6-4, 6-1, to close out the evening.
Plymouth State falls to 1-1 on the early season, while Saint Anselm improves to 1-2.

How it Happened:
- The duo of Cardoso and Craigie secured a point in an uphill battle at No. 2 doubles, while the Hawks took No. 1 and No. 3 by equal 8-0 scores.
- In No. 4 singles, Cardoso continued to resist her opponent, but was ultimately outmatched in a 6-2, 6-1 setback.
- Freshman Chloe Ahern (Middleton, Mass.) and senior Sarah Asciutto (Manchester Center, Vt.) each rallied to win a game at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively, falling by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores.
- Puzio punched in a solid effort in an attempt to extend the match at No. 6 with a 6-4, 6-1 setback.
By the Numbers:
- Junior Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Ahern teamed up at No. 1 doubles.
