PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The dynamic duo of junior
Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) and freshman
Sofia Orama (Marlborough, Conn.) led Plymouth State University to a sweep of Vermont State University Lyndon, 9-0, for the second time in eight days in non-conference women's tennis action at the Bank of New Hampshire Field House on ALLWell North on Wednesday afternoon.
The tandem sparked the Panthers' performance with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. The other two doubles matches also fell in PSU's favor with an 8-0 decision and win by forfeit as the Panthers built a 3-0 lead.
Cardoso and Orama then attacked the court in play, where they swept their opponents with identical 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 1 and No. 5 singles as the hosts cruised to victory.
Plymouth State jumps to 2-1, while the Hornets fall to 0-4.

How it Happened:
- The duo of junior Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.) and freshman Chloe Ahern (Middleton, Mass.) jumpstarted the Panthers with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, before Orama and Cardoso posted their 8-1 victory for a quick two points.
- Junior Amelia Brown (Meredith, N.H.) and freshman Kelsey Kane (Warner, N.H.) raced out to a 6-0 lead at No. 3 doubles, before the VTSU tandem forfeited the remainder of the match.
- Brown tallied the first of the Panthers' singles points with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 and senior Camilla Puzio (Holden, Mass.) followed suit with her own shutout victory at No. 6 singles.
- Kane won her first game before her opponent forfeited to push the margin to 6-0.
- Cardoso and Orama continued the momentum with two more 6-0, 6-0 wins each, before senior Sarah Asciutto (Manchester Center, Vt.) closed out the day without dropping a game at No. 2 to secure the 9-0 victory.
By the Numbers:
- Orama and Brown are both undefeated in singles play this year.
- Plymouth State improves to 24-0 all time against the Hornets. PSU has swept 13 of the past 14 meetings.
- Cardoso garnered her 17th career win as she rises up the career singles wins list to 28th all time.
