DANBURY, Conn. – The Plymouth State University women's soccer team was defeated by the Western Connecticut State University Wolves, 5-0, in a Little East Conference (LEC) match at the Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday morning.
The perennial LEC contending Wolves took advantage of a 3-0 halftime lead and closed out the match in the second half to remain undefeated in conference play. The Panthers had multiple opportunities to break into the scoreline in the back-and-forth battle, but the woodwork proved to be a better foe. Plymouth State had previously scored a goal in each of its last seven matches.
Sophomore
Molly Bellmore (Hebron, Conn.) led the Plymouth State attack, recording four of the team's 15 shots (two on goal), while graduate student
Kaliana Palhof (Loudon, N.H.) attempted five shots of her own in the losing effort.
Plymouth State falls to 1-6-2 (0-4-0 LEC) on the season, as WestConn improves to 3-4-4 (2-0-1 LEC).

How it Happened:
- The game started as a chess match, as the teams worked the ball back-and-forth in the midfield to compete for field position.
- The Wolves struck first in the 16th minute on a high lofted ball that bounced through a barrage of players and found its way to the back of the net to go up 1-0.
- WestConn immediately pounced, scoring the game's second goal just 26 seconds later on a rebound in front to double the advantage, 2-0.
- The Wolves put home their third tally with three minutes left to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
- PSU continued to press throughout the contest, matching its opponent shot for shot, hitting the post and crossbar in the second half.
- WestConn recorded its fourth goal early in the second half as the team closed out the conference victory with a final tally in the 66th minute.
By the Numbers:
- WestConn outshot the Panthers by a slim margin, 16-15, in the contest.
- The Panthers recorded three corner kicks to the Wolves' eight.
