SALEM, Mass. – The Plymouth State University women's soccer team had its second tie of the season after a 1-1 draw against the Salem State University Vikings at Alumni Field Wednesday evening.
Plymouth State opened the scoring in the 14th minute when senior
Ashley Plante (Concord, N.H.) found herself on the end of a cross from graduate student
Kaliana Palhof (Loudon, N.H.) to put the Panthers ahead. The score remained 1-0 until the Vikings tied the game in the second half on a deep shot that flew over the goalkeeper's head. The Panthers continued to show good play, putting Salem State under pressure throughout the match, while holding their opponents to only nine total shots.

Drea Oswell (Stafford Springs, Conn.) recorded eight saves in her collegiate debut.
Plymouth State is now 0-1-2, as Salem State holds a record of 0-2-1.

How it Happened:
- The Panthers started out strong, with early pressure bringing three shots in the first ten minutes and forcing the Salem State keeper to make her first save of the game.
- Plymouth State drew first blood soon after. In the 14th minute, a good ball in from Palhof found Plante for her first goal of the season.
- The Vikings looked to respond, putting two shots on Oswell in the span of a minute to make her first collegiate saves and keep her opponents off the board.
- Plymouth State continued to put the pressure on through halftime, producing 12 first half shots as the team went into the locker room still up 1-0.
- Salem State tied the game at 1-1 in the 54th minute when the Vikings capitalized on a scoring opportunity from 30 yards out that lofted over Oswell's head.
- The Panthers continued to control play throughout the second half, as they pushed for the game winner.
- Both teams had chances to steal the game late, but the game ended in a draw.
By the Numbers:
- The Panthers outshot Salem State 21-9 in the contest.
- PSU had the corner kick advantage, 6-4.
- Salem State registered all nine of their shots on goal.
- The Panthers forced 15 saves from the Viking goalkeeper.
- Oswell's eight saves were the most since Sept. 13 of last season when the Panthers recorded 12 saves against Emerson College.
- The Panthers are now unbeaten in the last four contests against Salem State (3-0-1) and have an 18-16-1 record all-time dating back to 1988.
