WATERVILLE, Maine – Plymouth State University got out to a slow start and was unable to recover as the Panthers fell to host Colby College, 67-24, in the opening game of the Gene DeLorenzo Tip Off Tournament at Wadsworth Gymnasium on Saturday night.
The Mules scored the first eight points of the game and never looked back, using a strong defensive to limit PSU's scoring opportunities.
Plymouth State squares off against Thomas College in the consolation game Sunday (Nov. 17) at 2:00 p.m., while Colby advances to face Westfield State in the championship game at 4:00 p.m.
Plymouth State moves to 1-2 on the year, while the Mules start the season 1-0.

How it Happened:
- Colby hit a pair of threes in the early going to snag an 8-0 lead.
- Graduate student Sabrina Vlahovic (New Hope, Pa.) drained two free throws and senior Alli Ingalls (Hampstead, N.H.) connected from distance to cut the margin to 8-5, but that was as close as the Panthers would get as the hosts closed the first quarter with the final seven points of the frame for a 15-5 lead after one.
- Junior Hailey Malozzi (Maynard, Mass.) got to the basket and sophomore Ashley Stephens (Pembroke, N.H.) had back-to-back buckets during a 6-2 spurt in the second quarter, but the hosts carried a 32-12 lead into halftime.
- PSU was unable to cut into the margin in the second half as Colby coasted to the win.
