DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Seniors
Dylan Flewelling (Oakland, Maine) and
Connor Wilcox (Colchester, Conn.) tag-teamed the front pack together to finish in the top three and bring the Plymouth State University men's cross country team to a second place finish at the Little East Conference Championship meet at the Robert Dowd Cross Country Course at UMass Dartmouth on Saturday morning.
Flewelling and Wilcox were the one-two punch that PSU needed to try to secure the three-peat they had been eyeing all season, as the back-to-back defending champions.
Flewelling and Wilcox paced each other throughout the race until Flewelling pulled away to finish second in 25:31.21, with Wilcox on his heels in 25:39.78. Both of their times were career bests in the 8k, while the rest of the Panthers' top five cruised to career bests as well.
The Panthers fell just short of claiming the title, finishing five points behind Keene State to take second overall. It was Plymouth State's first second place finish at the championship meet since 2013. The team has finished in the top three each of the last six years.
