CASTLETON, Vt. – Thirteen different players scored as Plymouth State University stormed past Vermont State University Castleton, 17-3, in Little East Conference (LEC) men's lacrosse action at Dave Wolk Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Alex Hawkom (Manchester, N.H.) scored twice in a six-goal opening period. VTSU Castleton broke into the scoring column midway through the second, but the Panthers closed the frame with three straight to push the lead to 9-1 at the half.
Hawkom buried his fourth of the day in the third as PSU rolled to the comfortable win.
Plymouth State improves to 8-4 (3-1 LEC), while the Spartans slides to 2-10 (1-3 LEC).

How it Happened:
- Hawkom got PSU out to a quick start with his first marker of the day just 1:07 into the first.
- Senior Liam Brown (Center Harbor, N.H.) doubled the lead before Hawkom converted a man-up chance midway through the frame.
- Junior Ryan Collins (Attleboro, Mass.), sophomore Brady Hunt (Billerica, Mass.) and junior Ryan Jones (Tolland, Conn.) all found the back of the cage in the final three minutes of the quarter to take a 6-0 after one.
- VTSU Castleton broke through midway through the second, but PSU closed the frame with three straight goals. Sophomore Josh Manickam (Littleton, Mass.) tallied his first of the year with 5:27 left before halftime and junior Aiden O'Loughlin (Londonderry, N.H.) followed 1:20 later. Hawkom picked up his third of the day with another man-up tally just a minute later for a 9-1 lead at the break.
- Hawkom buried his third man-up goal of the day in the third and sophomore Zach Marvel (Raynham, Mass.) added a man-down tally with 6:26 left as the lead ballooned to 11-1.
- After a Spartans' score, senior John Barros (Milton, Mass.) and sophomore Nate Curtin (Norwell, Mass.) each snagged their first goals of the season to make it 13-2 heading to the fourth quarter.
- PSU outscored the hosts 4-1 in the final stanza to secure the win. Freshmen Kevin Cougler (Dover, N.H.) and Aiden Renner (Phillipsburg, N.J.) and senior Anthony Lorizio (Milton, Mass.) each scored, while Manickam added his second of the day.
By the Numbers:
- Hawkom (four goals, one assist) and Collins (one goal, four assists) netted five points apiece. Hawkom added three ground balls, while Collins chipped in four ground balls and a caused turnover.
- Curtin added a pair of helpers to his goal to finish with three points.
- Renner grabbed a game-high eight ground balls and won 9-of-12 faceoffs, while Marvel added five ground balls and a caused turnover.
- Junior Leif Charbonneau (North Grafton, Mass.) won 9-of-11 faceoffs and added three ground balls.
- Senior Owen McNichols (Manchester, N.H.) made four saves in the first half to earn the win. Junior Ethan Schena (Methuen, Mass.) made four stops in the third quarter, with sophomore Matt Montoya (Shrewsbury, Mass.) also turning aside four shots in the fourth.
- Plymouth State outshot the Spartans by a 47-15 margin. VTSU Castleton goalies combined for 30 saves.
- The Panthers went 14-for-18 in clear attempts, while holding the hosts to just 13-of-21.
- PSU dominated the ground ball battle by a 48-14 margin and won 18-of-23 faceoffs.
- Plymouth State improves to 23-3 against the Spartans. PSU has won each of the last six meetings.
