WXC: Karow carries momentum in debut, Panthers take third

KEENE, N.H. – Sophomore Rose Karow (South Yarmouth, Mass.) picked up right where she left off during an outstanding rookie campaign to aid the Plymouth State University women's cross country team to a third place finish at the Keene State Alumni Meet at the Owl Athletic Complex on Saturday.

Karow returns after having arguably the best rookie season for a women's cross country and track & field athlete and showed no signs of slowing down in the season debut. Karow finished second in the two-mile race, trailing the winner by just eight seconds to cross the line in 12:08.90.

Plymouth State finished third as a team, trailing Little East Conference (LEC) rival Keene State by less than ten points, but leading conference foe UMass Boston by a wide margin.

The Basics:
  • Keene State Alumni Meet – 3rd of 6 Teams
Team Scores:
  • Westfield State (25), Keene State (62), Plymouth State (73), Framingham State (117), UMass Boston (122), Worcester State (147)
How it Happened:
  • Karow led the Panthers' charge in second place in a time of 12:08.90.
  • Sophomore Molly Glew (Plymouth, N.H.) was just shy of the top-10, with freshman Abby Marston (Greene, Maine) making her debut with a top-15 in a tight pack. Glew and Marston crosse the line in 12:50.10 and 12:50.60.
  • Freshman Mia Sweeney (Plymouth, Mass.) continued to punch in strong performances for the first-time runners, nabbing a top-25 showing in 13:20.50.
  • Junior Isabel Costa (Harrisville, R.I.) closed out the top-five scorers with her time of 13:34.70.
  • Sophomore Abby Bergeron (Essex, Vt.) and freshman Mary McGloine (Schuylerville, N.Y.) were neck-and-neck to the finish, but Bergeron edged her out in 13:53.50, with McGloine crossing the line in 13:53.70.
