WTEN: D-II Saint Anselm stymies Panthers

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Alyssa Craigie (Gilford, N.H.) and sophomore Maddie Lorenz (Jefferson, N.H.) won multiple games, but NCAA Division II Saint Anselm College was too strong for the Plymouth State University women's tennis team as the Panthers dropped a 7-0 decision at the Saint Anselm Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Craigie picked up a pair of games in the second set of her match at No. 3 singles, while Lorenz snagged a single game in each of her two sets at No. 5.
 
Plymouth State slips to 0-2 to start the year, while the Hawks rise to 2-1.

How it Happened:
  • The Hawks grabbed the lone doubles point after sweeping all three spots.
  • Senior Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.) and sophomore Chloe Ahern (Middleton, Mass.) battled at No. 1 doubles but were on the short end of a 6-1 decision.
  • Lorenz teamed up with sophomore Sofia Orama (Marlborough, Conn.) at No. 3 pair, falling by an identical 6-1 mark.
  • Plymouth State was overpowered by the D-II foes in singles play, with the Hawks winning each of the six slots in straight sets.
  • Craigie secured two games in the second set of her contest at No. 3, while Lorenz snagged a game in each of her two sets at No. 5.
  • Orama also picked up a game during the opening set at No. 6 singles.
By the Numbers:
  • LaBarre and senior Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) were each appearing in their 40th career games for the Panthers.
  • The Hawks have controlled the all-time series, winning 18-of-19 meetings.
