PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth won four singles matches to outlast Plymouth State University, 5-4, in a Little East Conference (LEC) women's tennis match at the Holderness School Courts on Saturday.
The Panthers held a 2-1 lead after doubles play and sophomores
Maddie Lorenz (Jefferson, N.H.) and
Sofia Orama (Marlborough, Conn.) earned wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, but the Corsairs were able to eke out the win with victories at the top four singles spots.
Plymouth State dips to 0-3 (0-2 LEC), while the Corsairs stay unbeaten at 5-0 (2-0 LEC).

How it Happened:
- Junior Alyssa Craigie (Gilford, N.H.) and senior Elena Cardoso (Hudson, Mass.) teamed up for a win at No. 2 doubles, 8-3, while Lorenz and Orama gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead after pairs play, outlasting their opponents, 8-6.
- UMD pulled even with a straight sets win at No. 1 singles.
- Lorenz (6-1, 6-1) restored the lead with her victory at No. 5 singles, and Orama outlasted her opponent in a tight three-set match (6-4, 2-6, 6-4) at No. 6.
- UMass Dartmouth won a pair of highly competitive matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles to even the score at 4-4. Senior Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I.) was nipped (4-6, 5-7) at No. 2, while Craigie came up just short at No. 3 (2-6, 5-7).
- The Corsairs were able to secure the final point in a three-set battle at No. 4.

- The Corsairs maintain a slight edge (15-13) in the series, though UMass Dartmouth has won each of the last five meetings.
- The two teams last met in the first round of last fall's LEC Tournament.
- Orama has won two of her first three singles matches to lead the team in victories.
