WESTFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore
Hunter Burke (Pembroke, Mass.) and junior
Reece Davis (Livermore, Maine) were recognized when the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) announced its Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
Burke had a big day for the Panthers' defense, matching a team high with nine tackles, including one for loss, and snagging an interception to help Plymouth State top Westfield State, 42-35, on Saturday. With the score tied at 14 in the second quarter, Burke picked off a pass in the red zone and returned it 13 yards to keep the Owls out of the end zone.
Davis became the latest Panther to post a career-high rushing total, carrying 24 times for 136 yards (5.7 yards per carry) and a touchdown. His 8-yard score capped a 65-yard drive in the third quarter to tie the game at 28. It was the first of three consecutive touchdown drives that put the Panthers ahead for good.
Plymouth State (6-1, 5-1 MASCAC) hosts Framingham State (5-2, 5-1 MASCAC) at noon on Saturday (Nov. 1) in a key conference matchup, as the teams are tied with Anna Maria atop the league standings.
