PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University moved up one spot to No. 6 as the latest Grinold Chapter New England Division III Football Coaches Poll was released Tuesday.
The Panthers earned 51 points to move up from a tie for seventh in this week's rankings. Endicott remained in the top spot with 10 first-place votes and 118 points, while Trinity (one first-place vote, 94 points) and UNE (92 points) remained second and third.
PSU's next opponent, MASCAC rival Framingham State, dropped to tenth, while Anna Maria remained in the receiving votes section.
Plymouth State rebounded from its first loss of the season to top Westfield State, 42-35, on Saturday. Junior
Reece Davis (Livermore, Maine) ran for a career-high 136 yards and a touchdown, graduate student
Gregory Walker (Boxford, Mass.) added 87 rushing yards and two scores, and the Plymouth State defense forced three turnovers to hold off the Owls.
The Panthers (6-1, 5-1 MASCAC) host Framingham State (5-2, 5-1 MASCAC) in a key league matchup on Saturday (Nov. 1), as the teams are tied with Anna Maria atop the conference standings. Kickoff is set for noon.
The New England Division III Football Poll is presented by the Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, which also serves as the title sponsor of the weekly Gold Helmet Awards presented by the New England Football Writers Association throughout the season.
