DANBURY, Conn. – Sophomore
Sydney Riley (Haverhill, Mass.) and freshman
Sya McKay (Somersworth, N.H.) combined for 21 kills and six blocks to power the Plymouth State University women's volleyball team to its 10th straight win, a 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 19-25, 25-17) victory over Western Connecticut State University in a Little East Conference (LEC) women's volleyball match at Stephen Feldman Arena on Saturday.
Plymouth State grabbed an early five-point lead in the opening set, with junior
Annalyn Cahill (Mystic, Conn.) recording four kills without an error to help the Panthers secure the frame. Set two remained close until PSU used an 8-2 run to pull ahead for good. The Wolves answered in set three. PSU cut the deficit to just one, but WestConn rallied to pull away late, but the Panthers opened the fourth set with six straight points and never looked back.
The win moves Plymouth State to 12-4 overall (2-0 LEC), while WestConn drops to 12-4 (1-1 LEC).

How it Happened:
- A block by freshman Fiona Bailey (Wrentham, Mass.) and a WestConn error staked PSU to an 8-3 lead in the opener. After the Wolves cut the margin to one, 9-8, PSU answered with a five-point burst. With the Panthers up just 21-20, freshman Alice Borriello Diaz (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) and Cahill delivered consecutive kills to spark a game-winning run for the 25-21 victory.
- Set two remained tight until a 7-2 Panther run, highlighted by a Riley block, pushed PSU ahead, 19-14. The Panthers maintained the comfortable margin the rest of the way, with McKay's kill sealing the frame, 25-18.
- WestConn jumped ahead in set three, 16-10, before PSU clawed back within one following kills by Riley and graduate student Ella Koelb (Auburn, N.H.). The Wolves responded to retake control, claiming the set 25-19.
- Koelb's kill fueled a 6-0 start in the fourth, and the Panthers never trailed. Riley's back-to-back kills made it 14-7 as PSU coasted to a 25-17 win.
By the Numbers:
- Riley finished with 11 kills and three blocks, while McKay added 10 kills, three blocks and two aces.
- Koelb stuffed the stat sheet with 13 assists, nine kills, six digs and two blocks.
- Sophomore Danielle Emerson (Biddeford, Maine) posted 20 assists and nine digs.
- Graduate student Ava Duymazlar (Center Harbor, N.H.) paced the defense with a match-high 27 digs. Senior Veronika Castro Rodriguez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) added 16 digs.
- Plymouth State has won eight straight and 13-of-14 in the series.
