PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Three members of the Plymouth State University field hockey program were among a group of student-athletes honored by the Little East Conference (LEC) on Thursday as the league announced its major award winners and all-conference teams.
Seniors
Ellie Monahan (Watertown, Mass.) and
Kyla Napolitano (Warwick, R.I.) were named to the All-LEC Second Team, while junior
Abigale Bsullak (Poland, Maine) earned the 12th Player Award.
Plymouth State finished 5-12 under third-year head coach
Molly Saunders, earning the No. 6 seed for the LEC Tournament. The Panthers nearly pulled off a first round playoff upset, falling to third-seeded Southern Maine, 1-0.
Ellie Monahan:
- A 5-6 forward, Monahan led the Panthers with eight assists and was tied for second on the team with 14 points. She logged the second-most minutes among field players, starting all 17 games.
- Monahan ranked among the LEC leaders in shots per game, shots on goal per game, game-winning goals, and points per game, while sitting fourth in assists per game.
- She posted four multi-point games and registered at least one point in four of the team's final six regular season contests.
- This is her first postseason honor.
Kyla Napolitano:
- A 5-7 defender, Napolitano anchored a Plymouth State defense that allowed the fourth-fewest goals per game in the LEC this fall.
- A staple on the back line, she started all 17 games and led field players in minutes played – rarely stepping off the field.
- Napolitano was especially strong defensively on penalty corners. Her 11 defensive saves were the most by a Panther in at least 20 years and ranked sixth nationally and third in the LEC.
- This is her first postseason honor.
Abigale Bsullak:
- A 5-6 midfielder, Bsullak was a consistent force all over the field, finishing the season with three assists while starting all 17 games.
- She ranked among the team leaders in minutes and showcased strong stick skills, helping fuel Plymouth State's transition offense with regular runs up the sideline.
- This is her first postseason honor.
