WENHAM, Mass. – Senior Yansel Reyes (Manchester, N.H.) poured in a career-high 26 points to lift Plymouth State University to a narrow 76-75 win over the Gordon College Fighting Scots at the Bennett Center on Friday night.
 
After briefly trailing early in the second half, the Panthers seized a lead they would not relinquish in the opening game of the Gordon Classic Tournament. PSU went up by as many as eight late in the frame and held off a late Scots push to secure its third win of the season.
 
Senior Torran Bosworth (Springfield, Mass.) added 15 points, while sophomore Will Mollica (Stratham, N.H.) was perfect from the field, finishing with nine points and six rebounds in the victory.
 
Plymouth State improves to 3-0, while Gordon drops to 0-2.

How it Happened:

• Gordon opened with a 10-6 lead at the 15:54 mark of the first half.
• Behind a 14-4 run, the Panthers surged ahead 26-18 with 8:38 left in the half.
• The Scots responded to tie it at 26-26 with 5:40 remaining.
• The teams entered halftime deadlocked at 36-36.
• Still tied at 40-40 with 18:11 to play, PSU converted 5-of-6 free throws to take a lead it would hold the rest of the way.
• Gordon cut the deficit to 50-48 with 14:07 left.
• A 6-0 PSU run pushed the margin to 64-57 midway through the half.
• The Scots answered with seven straight points to make it 71-70 with 2:59 to go.
• Freshman Asante' Aurora (New Bedford, Mass.) buried a clutch three-pointer with 2:19 remaining to extend the lead to 76-72.
• Gordon completed an and-one with 53 seconds left, but PSU held firm to remain unbeaten.
