WH: Panthers rally late but fall in OT at unbeaten UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Sofia Cuozzo (Guilford, Conn.) scored her third goal in four games and classmate Jorja Moore (Penticton, British Columbia) made 34 saves in her first collegiate start, but the University of Massachusetts Boston slipped past Plymouth State University, 3-2, in overtime in a Little East Conference (LEC) women's ice hockey game at Edward T. Barry Ice Rink on Friday evening.

The Beacons jumped out to a quick start with a pair of goals in the opening four minutes. Plymouth State settled in from there, and Cuozzo's tally late in the second period cut the deficit in half.

Still trailing late in the third, the Panthers pulled the goalie for an extra skater and junior Emily Gerrie (Littleton, Colo.) tied the game with 1:07 remaining. Gerrie nearly won it just 30 seconds into overtime, but her shot drifted just wide. UMass Boston buried a rebound 2:01 into the extra frame to escape with the win.

Plymouth State drops to 2-2-0 (0-2-0 LEC), while UMass Boston stays unbeaten at 3-0-0 (2-0-0 LEC).

  • With under two minutes left, PSU pulled the goalie, and Gerrie buried a rebound in front to tie the game with 1:06 left on the clock.
