PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Senior
Max Goodman (South Salem, N.Y.) of the Plymouth State University men's cross country team has been named the PSU Male Athlete of the Month for October, sponsored by the New Hampshire Army National Guard.
Goodman has been a steady performer throughout the fall, providing the team with consistent top-end finishes against strong competition. After setting a significant personal best in late September, he nearly matched the effort at the Keene State Invitational on Oct. 4. His time of 25:29.60 was just 5.81 seconds off his career mark, good for 26th overall and second among Little East Conference (LEC) runners in a field of roughly 280 competitors. Plymouth State placed fourth in the team standings, continuing to solidify its reputation as one of the top programs in the region.
Two weeks later, Goodman delivered another standout performance at the highly competitive Connecticut College Invitational on Oct. 18, one of New England's premier Division III races. He turned in the third-fastest time of his career, crossing the line in 25:43.90. Goodman ranked fourth among LEC runners and 110th overall out of 270 participants – a field that included 12 nationally ranked programs. His performance once again underscored his ability to rise to the occasion against elite competition.
At the LEC Championship last weekend, Goodman claimed his second career All-Conference honor with a time of 26:04.00. His seventh-place finish earned All-LEC First Team recognition and helped guide the Panthers to a runner-up team finish, just six points shy of capturing the program's third conference championship.
Goodman and the Panthers will look to carry the momentum into the NCAA Division III East Regional Championship at Hopkinton Fair Ground on Nov. 15.
