BOSTON, Mass. – Senior
Dylan Flewelling (Oakland, Maine) obliterated the school record in the 5,000-meter run as the Plymouth State University men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed in day one of the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship hosted by Babson College at the TRACK at new balance on Friday.
Flewelling chopped more than 17 seconds off his previous school record mark set earlier this month, finishing second in the event in 14:31.62.
Junior
Josh Rebello (North Dighton, Mass.) flirted with history himself, coming within a half-second of a new program best in the 600-meters. He crossed the line in 1:22.68 for a top-20 finish.
Sophomore
Elijah Thomas (Stoughton, Mass.) finished fifth in his heat in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.80 seconds, while the men's distance medley relay squad of sophomore
Ben Colby (Manchester, N.H.), senior
Joey Cappelletti (Mansfield, Mass.), Rebello and senior
Connor Wilcox (Colchester, Conn.) was 17th overall in 10:47.58.
The women were represented in the 4x200-meter relay, as senior
Montana Casa (Storrs Mansfield, Conn.) teamed up with freshman
Ani Flynn (Plymouth, N.H.), junior
Cass Hanson (Stetson, Maine) and senior
Paige Hurst (Pelham, N.H.) to finish 18th in 1:49.08.
Behind Flewelling's runner up performance, the men secured eight team points to finish the opening day tied for ninth. The women did not accrue any team points through the first day of competition.
The meet concludes on Saturday (Mar. 1). Plymouth State's men will be represented in the weight throw, mile run, 200-meters, 400-meters, 800-meters and 4x400-meter relay, while the women will have entries in the high jump, 400-meters and 800-meters.
