PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University Athletics is embarking on a bold new chapter, officially rebranding from the Panthers to the Penguins, with the introduction of its new mascot, Percy the Penguin, Director of Athletics Kim Brownes announced on Wednesday.
 
The decision to retire the Panther was made after months of discussion among university leadership. The Panther has served the university well, but as Plymouth State continues to evolve, leadership felt it was time for a fresh identity that better reflects the spirit of the campus and region.
 
Why Penguins?

• Winter Identity: With Plymouth State nestled in the White Mountains, snow and ice are part of campus life nearly year-round. Penguins embody resilience, playfulness, and adaptability in cold environments, mirroring the PSU community.
• Unique Spirit: While Panthers are a common mascot across the country, Penguins provide Plymouth State with a distinctive, unique identity that stands out in collegiate athletics.
• Inclusive & Fun: Penguins are known for their team-oriented behavior, their sense of fun, and their ability to thrive together – qualities that align with PSU's values both on and off the field.

 
Alongside Percy's debut, the university is rolling out a new color scheme to match the updated brand:

• Primary Color: Teal Blue (Hex #3ea3db)
• Secondary Color: Lavender Pink (Hex #d17dae)

Decked out in a cozy scarf and beanie, Percy brings a wintery charm while making appearances at athletic events, student gatherings, and in the community throughout the year, carrying the program's new motto: "Slide Into Victory."
