MBB: Anchormen stave off Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University men's basketball team was defeated by the Rhode Island College Anchormen, 79-74, in a Little East Conference (LEC) battle at Foley Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Elijah Swanson (Meredith, N.H.) led the Panthers with 18 points, while sophomore Eli Pockette (Rutland, Vt.) added 17 points of his own. Senior Kevin Henry (Stratham, N.H.) registered 15 points in the contest with sophomore Ivan Yen (Concord, N.H.) tallying 10 points in the losing effort for the Panthers.

Plymouth State falls to 10-11 (3-9 LEC) on the season, while RIC moves to 14-8 (9-4 LEC).

How it Happened:

The Panthers started with an early 10-4 lead with 13:33 on the clock in the opening half.
RIC took its first lead of the contest at the 6:11 mark in the first half, knocking down a three-pointer to go up 22-21.
With 3:29 to go until halftime, the teams were knotted at 27-27.
The Anchormen closed out the first half on an 11-2 run to take a 38-29 advantage into the locker room.
RIC extended the margin to 14 points (43-29), opening the second half with the first five points.
The Panthers responded, trying to keep pace with seven unanswered points to close the gap to 43-36 with 15:19 remaining in regulation.

Pockette was fouled in the front court to prevent a three-point attempt, as the Panther hit both of his free throws to bring the game to 77-73 with just eight seconds remaining.
The back-and-forth continued until the final buzzer as the Anchormen sealed the win.
