MBB: Henry, Panthers erase 22-point deficit, shock VTSU Castleton

CASTLETON, Vt. – Senior Kevin Henry (Stratham, N.H.) poured in 32 points and Plymouth State University rallied from a 22-point first half deficit to stun Vermont State University Castleton, 71-67, in a Little East Conference (LEC) battle at Glenbrook Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

The Spartans nailed 7-of-16 from beyond the arc in the first half, building a 40-18 advantage with just under four minutes before halftime. PSU ran off six straight, but a three-pointer just before the buzzer gave the hosts a 43-24 lead at the break.

Henry and senior Kevin Newton-Delgado (Hopkinton, N.H.) got to the basket on consecutive possessions to cut the margin down to single digits, 49-41, seven-plus minutes into the second half and PSU stayed within striking distance. A 12-2 surge, which included seven points from Henry, knotted the game at 61-61 with 4:22 on the clock. The Panthers went into the lead, but a pair of Spartans' free throws with 23 seconds left retied the score at 67-67.

Senior Elijah Swanson (Meredith, N.H.) scored on a backdoor cut with ten seconds left and, after a Spartans' miss, Henry sealed the win with two free throws to account for the final score. Henry now sits at 942 career points with three regular season games remaining.

Plymouth State improves to 11-11 (4-9 LEC) and is now just one game out of a playoff spot. VTSU Castleton dips to 3-18 and 2-11 in conference play.
