PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two members of the Plymouth State University women's tennis program were honored by College Sports Communicators for their academic excellence on Tuesday, as the CSC Academic All-District Teams were announced.
Senior
Tessa LaBarre (North Smithfield, R.I,) and junior
Alyssa Craigie (Gilford, N.H.) were recognized for their outstanding academic accomplishments.
Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, where First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early-June.
To be eligible for Academic All-District recognition, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and must maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average. Graduate students must maintain the minimum GPA as both undergrad and graduate students. Additionally, student-athletes must be in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's days of competition (regional competition such as ITAs and non-team scored events do not count).
Under the direction of third-year head coach
Kathy Peverly, the team went 6-6 on the year, securing the No. 4 seed for the Little East Conference (LEC) Tournament and advancing to the semifinals after topping No. 5 Salem State, 5-2, in a first round matchup. Top-seeded and two-time defending champion UMass Boston ended the Panthers' season in the semifinal round, before the Beacons went on to capture a third straight title.
