WTEN: Panthers selected sixth in LEC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

PROVIDENCE, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's tennis team was projected to finish in the middle of the pack, as the Little East Conference (LEC) announced the results of its annual Preseason Coaches' Poll on Thursday.

PSU earned 27 points to claim the sixth spot in the poll, just three points back of Salem State. Three-time defending champion UMass Boston was tabbed as the favorite to repeat, picking up six first-place votes and 62 points to narrowly edge out Rhode Island College, which collected 59 points and three first-place votes.

Head coach Kathy Peverly enters her fourth year at the helm after guiding the Panthers to six wins in each of her first three campaigns. Under her direction, Plymouth State has gone 4-4 in LEC play every year, earning the #4 seed last fall. The Panthers knocked off Salem State in the opening round of the LEC Tournament before bowing to the eventual champions in the semifinals.

Junior Chloe Ahern (Middleton, Mass.) held down the top singles spot last year and is expected to anchor the lineup again. Senior Alyssa Craigie (Gilford, N.H.) and junior Sofia Orama (Marlborough, Conn.) also provide key veteran leadership. Craigie led the team with seven doubles victories last season, while Orama posted a team-best 7-3 singles record.

Plymouth State opens the 2025 schedule with two out-of-division opponents, visiting Division I Holy Cross on Sept. 2 before hosting D-II Saint Anselm on Sept. 9. LEC play beings Sept. 13 when the Panthers travel to Salem State for a key conference matchup.
