KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Plymouth State University men's soccer program was recognized by United Soccer Coaches for its academic excellence as the organization announced its Team Academic Award winners on Friday evening.
Plymouth State was one of three Little East Conference (LEC) schools to receive the honor, joined by VTSU Castleton and Eastern Connecticut. A total of 721 soccer programs (296 men, 425 women) from all three NCAA Divisions were honored after posting team grade point averages of 3.00 or higher. Under the direction of longtime head coach
Rob Wright, the Panthers easily surpassed that mark, combining for a 3.52 team GPA. The men's team has now earned the honor for 11 straight years.
Last fall, Plymouth State went 9-9-2 overall and returned to the LEC Tournament for the first time since 2015. As the fifth seed, the Panthers blanked fourth-seeded Keene State in a first round game for the team's first postseason victory since the 2008 season, before falling to the eventual tournament champions, WestConn, in the semifinals.
