PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman
Sya McKay (Somersworth, N.H.) pounded 11 kills while hitting .364 as Plymouth State University cruised past Vermont State University Lyndon, 3-0 (25-4, 25-8, 25-10), in non-conference women's volleyball action at Foley Gymnasium on Wednesday.
McKay opened the first set with back-to-back kills, and sophomore
Danielle Emerson (Biddeford, Maine) fired five aces during a 12-point run as the Panthers coasted to a 25-4 win. Freshman
Bella Cortez (Gorham, Maine) sparked a 6-2 start in set two with a pair of aces, while classmate
Neve Tyler (Hebron, Conn.) added three more to help secure a 25-8 victory. In the third, freshman
Alexa Marucci (Newton, Mass.) ripped four aces during a 13-point surge to close out the sweep, 25-10.
Plymouth State wins its seventh straight to jump to 9-4, while the Hornets remain winless at 0-11.

How it Happened:
- McKay tallied back-to-back kills as PSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Emerson added a kill to make it 10-3 before taking over from the service line, dropping in five aces to push the margin to 22-3. Junior Annalyn Cahill (Mystic, Conn.) capped the 25-4 win with a kill.
- Freshman Alice Borriello Diaz (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) delivered two aces as PSU raced to a 6-1 lead in set two. Cahill's kill stretched the advantage to 16-6, then Tyler's three aces helped push it to 21-6. McKay's block closed the 25-8 decision.
- With set three tied at 4-4, Cahill's kill put PSU ahead before Marucci reeled off 13 straight points from the service line to break it open. Emerson sealed the sweep with her fifth kill, 25-10.
By the Numbers:
- McKay finished with 11 kills (.364) and two blocks, while Cahill added six kills (.385) and three blocks.
- Emerson filled the stat sheet with 19 assists, five kills, five aces, and five digs.
- Freshman Emily Sousa (Farmington, Conn.) chipped in 10 assists.

- The Panthers totaled 35 kills (.256) while holding VTSU Lyndon to just four kills and a -.204 hitting percentage.
