Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Christopher J. Kilmer, Assistant Athletics Director, Athletics Communications

WH: Robbins, Gerrie provide fireworks in shutout over Anna Maria

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman Olivia Robbins (Poolesville, Md.) and junior Emily Gerrie (Littleton, Colo.) each scored twice, while freshman Jorja Moore (Penticton, British Columbia) posted her second straight shutout as Plymouth State University pummeled Anna Maria College, 7-0, in non-conference women's ice hockey action at Hanaway Rink on Friday evening.

Robbins opened the scoring just five minutes into the game, then set up junior Laura Castronova (Hauppauge, N.Y.) later in the frame as PSU took a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

The Panthers exploded for four goals in the middle stanza, chasing the AMCATS goaltender less than 15 minutes into the period. Robbins potted her second of the game midway through the frame, and junior Erika Johnson (Salt Lake City, Utah) followed with her first career goal to make it 4-0. Senior Caeli Reed (Norwood, Mass.) buried her first of the season just over a minute later, and Gerrie's breakaway goal made it 6-0 heading to the third.

Gerrie capped the scoring with a power play strike with 1:26 left to play.

Moore tallied 14 saves to record her second shutout in as many games.

Plymouth State evens its record at 7-7-0, while the AMCATS fall to 3-9-1.

The Basics:
  • Plymouth State 7, Anna Maria 0
    • Plymouth State (7-7-0)
    • Anna Maria (3-9-1)
How it Happened:
  • Robbins opened the scoring 5:17 into the contest with a shot from the right circle to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Late in the period, Robbins snared the puck off the side of the net, skated behind the goal and found Castronova in front for an easy goal as PSU carried a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
  • Robbins and Gerrie connected midway through the second to extend the lead to 3-0. Gerrie made a nifty move to get around a defender, then hit Robbins in the slot for the wrister to the top left corner at the 9:10 mark.
  • Johnson potted her first career goal during 4-on-4 action with 5:16 left in the period when her low-angle shot snuck through to chase the AMCATS starting goaltender, and Reed greeted the backup just over a minute later when she converted from the slot for her first goal of the year to make it 5-0.
  • Just 1:18 later, Gerrie grabbed a loose puck in the neutral zone, skated down the right side, then sliced through the crease to extend the margin to 6-0.
  • Gerrie added her second of the game on the power play, skating the length of the ice before beating the goalie high to the glove side with 1:26 left to play to account for the final score.
By the Numbers:
  • Robbins posted her first two-goal game and finished with a career-best three points and a +4 rating.
  • Gerrie also set career-highs of two goals and four points to move into the team lead with 12 points on the year.
  • Castronova's tally was her team-high fifth of the year.
  • Moore becomes the first PSU goaltender to record consecutive shutouts since Emelie Lindqvist in February 2016.
  • Eleven different players registered at least one point for the Panthers.
  • Plymouth State owned a 45-14 shot advantage, including 13-2 in the opening period.
  • The Panthers remain unbeaten (5-0-2) against the AMCATS.
