WH: Panthers tripped up at Anna Maria

PAXTON, Mass. – Junior Lilli Warnock (Bernardsville, N.J.) gave the Plymouth State University women's ice hockey team a second-period lead and the Panthers outshot Anna Maria College by a significant margin, but the AMCATS used three unanswered goals to top the Panthers, 3-1, and split the weekend series in a non-conference matchup at Buffone Arena on Saturday night.

Warnock went top-shelf during a power-play midway through the middle stanza to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Freshman Jorja Moore (Penticton, British Columbia) surrendered the tying goal late in the frame – snapping her streak of nearly 165 scoreless minutes – and the hosts jumped in front a minute into the third. Anna Maria sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final minute to stave off any thoughts of a late rally.

Plymouth State slides to 7-8-0, while the AMCATS improve to 4-9-1.

  • A blocked shot led to a breakout chance for the AMCATS, who converted to tie the game at 1-1 with 2:42 left in the frame.
  • Anna Maria punched in a rebound with a scrum in the crease just over a minute into the third period to take the lead.
  • The hosts sealed the game with an empty-net goal in the final 30 seconds.
