PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A pair of Plymouth State University men's lacrosse student-athletes were recognized Monday when the Little East Conference (LEC) announced its weekly award winners.
 
Freshman Colby Walden (Londonderry, N.H.) was selected as LEC Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week, while sophomore Spencer Kennedy (East Lyme, Conn.) was named Defensive Player of the Week following their performances in Saturday afternoon's dramatic season opener at Salve Regina University.
 
Walden paced the PSU offense with a hat trick in his first collegiate game, helping the Panthers erase a 3-0 first-quarter deficit before falling, 9-8, on a last-second goal as time expired. He scored the Panthers' first goal early in the second quarter and added two in the third to tie the game at 4-4.
 
Kennedy was the backbone of the defense, snagging three ground balls and adding a game-high three caused turnovers in the setback.
 
Plymouth State (0-1) visits Rivier University on Saturday (Feb. 21) for a noon clash with the Raiders.
