MH: Tremblay-Mathieu tabbed LEC Rookie of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After playing a key role in Plymouth State University's victory at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth over the weekend, freshman Étienne Tremblay-Mathieu (Québec City, Québec) was recognized with weekly honors from the Little East Conference (LEC), the league announced Monday.

Tremblay-Mathieu, who was named LEC Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week, scored twice and added two assists to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Panthers to a 6-3 win over the Corsairs on Saturday.

After the Corsairs scored back-to-back goals to tie the contest late in the second period, Tremblay-Mathieu registered an assist on the goal-ahead goal with less than three minutes in the frame. He added another helper early in the third period, then batted in a rebound midway through the frame to extend the margin to 5-2. Tremblay-Mathieu sealed the win with a long empty-net goal with 2:30 left to play.

The 5-8 defenseman has been an impactful addition to the roster, totaling nine goals, 16 assists, and a +8 rating appearing among the league leaders in several offensive categories.

Plymouth State (12-9-1, 9-5-1 LEC) hosts New England College on Saturday (Feb. 14) at 6 p.m. The Panthers have secured a playoff spot and currently rank third in the conference standings, one point ahead of UMass Boston. The top six teams in the final standings qualify for the LEC Tournament, with the top two seeds receiving a first-round bye.
