SB: Four Panthers honored as NFCA Top Performers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Four members of the Plymouth State University softball team were recognized as weekly top performers by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), the organization announced this week.

Graduate pitcher Emily Antrim (Limerick, Maine), senior infielders Emily Bessette (Cranston, R.I.) and Ariana Cray (Merrimack, N.H.), and freshman hurler Allie Cecere (Plainville, Mass.) were all honored for their performances over the past week.

Antrim posted a 1-0 record, tossing 15 innings with a 0.47 earned run average, including eight innings of one-run ball in an eventual 3-2, 10-inning win over VTSU Castleton.

Bessette hit .500 with a triple and five runs scored, while Cray batted .421 with four runs scored and four RBIs.

Cecere went 2-1 in the circle, striking out nine with a 1.26 ERA over 16 innings.

Plymouth State split doubleheaders against Castleton and New England College before sweeping WestConn last week. The Panthers are currently 13-14-1 (5-3 LEC) and will host Eastern Connecticut State in a key conference matchup on Saturday (Apr. 25). First pitch of game one is scheduled for noon at D&M Park.
