GORHAM, Maine – Freshman
Evelyn Goudreau (Topsham, Maine) notched her sixth hat trick of the season, but the University of Southern Maine got out to an early lead to top Plymouth State University, 15-5, in a Little East Conference (LEC) women's lacrosse game at Hannaford Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Huskies went ahead 5-1 over the first ten minutes of action and built a 9-3 lead at halftime. Goudreau scored twice in the third to cut the deficit to 10-5, but Southern Maine pulled away in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Plymouth State falls to 3-7 (1-2 LEC), while the Huskies improve to 9-3 (4-0 LEC).

How it Happened:
- The Huskies opened with three goals in the first three minutes to take control early.
- Junior Greta Oberacker (East Falmouth, Mass.) cut the deficit to 3-1 with 9:11 left in the first quarter, but Southern Maine responded just 11 seconds later.
- Sophomore Claire Joyce (Braintree, Mass.) scored her 11th goal of the season to make it 5-2 late in the first quarter, but another Huskies' tally in the closing seconds made it 6-2 after one quarter of action.
- Southern Maine scored the first three goals of the second quarter before Goudreau found the back of the cage in the final minute to make it 9-3 at halftime.
- Goudreau sandwiched a pair of goals around a USM tally in the third quarter to make it 10-5 heading into the fourth.
- Southern Maine scored five times in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
By the Numbers:
- Goudreau has three or more goals in six of ten games this season, while her 22 goals lead the team. She chipped in a pair of draw controls.
- Joyce finished with a goal and two assists.
- Freshman Grace Hoover (Salem, N.H.) posted three ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
- Junior Grace Campo (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Oberacker added two ground balls and two caused turnovers apiece.
- Plymouth State leads the all-time series 26-4 and had won 17 of the last 18 meetings.
