Elliana Wing (Concord, N.H.) each scored, but Bridgewater State University rode a four-goal first quarter to top Plymouth State University, 8-3, in a non-conference field hockey game on Panther Field Tuesday evening.
Bridgewater State came out of the gates hot, building a 4-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. PSU controlled the second quarter, outshooting the Bears 8-2, but the Panthers were unable to solve the visiting goalie as BSU maintained the 4-0 lead into halftime.
The Panthers cut into the deficit when Monahan converted a feed from Berrettini. Seven minutes later, Berrettini fired a shot of her own into the back of the cage to make it 4-2, but Bridgewater State answered with two quick goals to restore the four-goal margin.
The Bears scored twice more early in the fourth before Wing scored her first career goal late in the game to account for the final score.
PSU opens the season at 0-1, while Bridgewater State begins the year at 1-0.

How it Happened:
- BSU got on the board just under seven minutes in.

- Berrettini scored her first of the year to cut the margin to 4-2, but the Bears answered with two goals in less than two minutes.
- The visitors extended the lead to 8-2 early in the fourth quarter.
- Wing knocked in a turnaround shot on a feed from senior Abby Bsullak (Poland, Maine) to account for the final score.
By the Numbers:
- Freshman Hannah Bub (Groveland, Mass.) made nine saves in her first career game.
- The Panthers held a 25-22 shot advantage and earned 10 penalty corners to BSU's six.
- Bridgewater State's goalie finished with 17 saves, including eight in the second quarter.
- PSU leads the all-time series, 30-11-1.
