FH: Panthers’ comeback falls short against St. Joe’s

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Lexi Berrettini (Lake Bluff, Ill.) scored for the second straight game and graduate student Ellie Monahan (Watertown, Mass.) recorded two assists, but Saint Joseph's College (Maine) outlasted Plymouth State University, 6-3, in a non-conference field hockey game at Panther Field on Thursday evening.

St. Joe's jumped out to an early lead just over three minutes into the contest. The Panthers answered a minute later when senior Abby Bsullak (Poland, Maine) notched her first of the year to knot the score at 1-1, but the Monks pulled ahead moments later to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

PSU controlled play throughout the second quarter and broke through to even the score on a goal from sophomore Alex Zaino (Melrose, Mass.), with Berrettini picking up the assist, sending the teams into halftime deadlocked at 2-2.

Despite multiple scoring attempts by the Panthers, St. Joe's scored two quick goals to take a 4-2 lead in the third. Plymouth State battled back to cut the deficit to one when Monahan sent a pass to Berrettini, who buried her second of the season to make it 4-3.

The Monks spoiled the comeback bid with a pair of late insurance goals to account for the final margin.
