PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomores
Leela Bakhshi (Plymouth, N.H.) and
Sidney Huff (Port Orchard, Wash.) each won third-set tiebreaks, but the Plymouth State University women's tennis team was nipped by Plattsburgh State, 4-3, at the Holderness School Courts in the home opener on Friday afternoon.
The Cardinals jumped on top early taking all three doubles matches. That momentum carried into singles play as they picked up wins at the top two spots and No. 6. The middle of the Panthers lineup battled back as they won the last three matches including tiebreaks at No.4 and No. 5.
Plymouth State falls to 1-1, while Plattsburgh State improves to 5-0.

How it Happened:
- The Cardinals picked up the doubles point, as they swept all three matches.
- Plattsburgh was able to clinch the match as they got straight set wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 6.
- The Panthers battled back, starting with Huff who came up clutch in the 10-point tiebreak, 10-7, to win No. 4 after splitting the first two sets.
- Bakhshi rallied from a set down to stun her opponent at No.5, 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.
- The Panthers saved the best for last as Sofia Orama (Marlborough, Conn.) ran away with a first set tiebreak and then finished off her match in straight sets at No.3, 7-6 (7-0), 6-4.
By the Numbers:
- This was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
- Bakhshi and Huff both won in match tiebreaks for the first time in their careers.
- Orama won a set via tiebreak for the first time in her singles career.
Up Next:
- Plymouth State remains home on Saturday (Sept. 12) for the Little East Conference opener against Salem State. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
