MILTON, Mass. – Senior
Anyah Fields (San Diego, Calif.) earned wins in both singles and doubles play, but the University of Massachusetts Boston topped Plymouth State University, 6-1, in a Little East Conference (LEC) women's tennis match at Milton Academy on Saturday.
Fields and sophomore
Leela Bakhshi (Plymouth, N.H.) teamed up for a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles, though the Beacons earned the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2.
Fields secured a singles point with a straight-sets win at No. 6, 6-3, 6-0, but that was all the Panthers would muster. Sophomore
Sidney Huff (Port Orchard, Wash.) put up a strong fight at No. 5 but ultimately fell, 6-2, 7-5.
Plymouth State falls to 3-2 (1-1 LEC), while the Beacons improve to 4-1 (2-0 LEC).

How it Happened:
- The Beacons earned the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 1 and 6-4 victory at No. 2.
- Fields and Bakhshi teamed up to salvage No. 3 doubles with a 7-5 win.
- UMB won at No. 1 singles, but Fields overpowered her opponent at No. 6 to keep the Panthers close, 2-1.
- The Beacons won the remaining singles matches in straight sets, though senior Sofia Orama (Marlborough, Conn.) and Bakhshi each won five games at Nos. 3 and No. 5, respectively, while Huff came up just short in her second set, 7-5.
By the Numbers:
- Bakhshi and Fields improved to 3-1 as a pair, while Bakhshi owns a 4-1 mark in doubles play.
- Huff and Bakhshi both suffered their first losses in singles play, falling to 4-1.
- Fields has won three straight singles matches to improve to 3-1.
- UMass Boston leads the series, 17-10, having won each of the last six matchups.
