PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Jaimee
Coombs (Peabody, Mass.) and junior Nicole
Bedard (Windham, N.H./Alvirne) scored second-half goals
Saturday afternoon as Plymouth State University came from behind to
defeat the University of Southern Maine, 2-1, in Little East
Conference women's soccer action at Panther Field.
PSU won its first conference game of the season and its second
contest this week, improving 4-3-0 overall and 1-2 in LEC
games. USM dropped its second straight one-goal game of the
week and fell to 4-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play.
Each team managed six shots in the first half, but neither team was
able to score as senior keepers Meghan Ibar (Milwaukee, Wis.) of
Southern Maine and Ashley Riberdy (Manchester,
N.H./Memorial) of Plymouth State stopped everything they saw.
The visitors got on the board just three minutes into the second
half, when senior Natasha Levandowski (Portland, Maine) converted
for the Huskies, with an assist from freshman Lila Dunham-Conway
(Standish, Maine.) That lead lasted about 15 minutes, when
Coombs evened things up at the 63-minute mark, with sophomore
Gianna Minervini (Point Pleasant, N.J.) picking up
an assist. Less than five minutes later, Bedard tallied the
game-winner, her first career tally, with freshman Rachel
Kindl (Granby, Conn.) assisting.
Riberdy recorded the win for PSU, finishing with seven saves, and
Ibar ended up with eight saves for the Huskies.
The Panthers are home again Tuesday with a non-conference game
against Salem State (6:00 p.m.) Southern Maine returns home
to host Framingham State on Wednesday (3:30 p.m.)
