PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomore Sia Karmoutopoulos
(Fremont, N.H.) broke a 1-1 tie with 14 minutes remaining in
regulation Saturday afternoon at Panther Field to lift Keene State
College past Plymouth State University, 2-1, in the Little East
Conference women's soccer opener for both schools.
The Owls, who are 15-0-1 in their last 16 games against the
Panthers, improve to 5-2 on the season, while PSU drops to 2-2-1.
Junior Katie Bradford (Lebanon, N.H.) put the Owls on the
scoreboard early, blasting a shot off the hands of the goalkeeper
from the right-hand side and into the back of the net for her
team-leading fifth goal of the season. That ended up as the
only goal of the first half, although PSU senior Gianna
Minervini (Point Pleasant, N.J.) nearly scored with 17
minutes remaining but her shot went just wide.
Sophomore Leah Teter (Granville, Mass.) almost gave the Owls a
two-goal lead early in the second half but her shot hit the
post. PSU evened the score in the 54th minute when
senior Lauren Lavery (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South)
converted a penalty kick for the Panthers.
Keene State had a 14-4 advantage in shots, and a 6-2 margin in
corner kicks.
PSU is home again on Tuesday with a non-conference encounter
against Worcester State (4:30 p.m.) KSC plays a
non-conference game Tuesday at Clark (4:00 p.m.)
