PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Lauren
Lavery (Nashua, N.H./Nashua South) recorded a goal and an
assist and sophomore keeper Angelina LaBroad
(Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) made five saves Saturday afternoon to
lift Plymouth State University to a 3-0 victory over the University
of Southern Maine in a Little East Conference women's soccer game
at Panther Field.
Lavery, who now leads the Panthers in scoring with six goal and two
assists, set up PSU's second goal midway through the first half and
added an insurance marker early in the second half. Plymouth
State won its second straight outing, improving to 4-2-1 overall
and 1-1 in the LEC, while Southern Maine drops to 1-7 overall and
0-2 in conference play.
Senior Gianna Minervini (Point Pleasant, N.J.)
gave the Panthers the lead less than four minutes into the
contest. The keeper came out to block her shot but Minervini
chipped the ball over the keeper's head and into the goal for her
third of the season. PSU extended the margin 15 minutes later
when Lavery slid a pass in the box to junior Rebecca
Wilson (Clinton, Conn.), who finished off her fifth of the
season for a two-goal Panther lead, which lasted through the rest
of the half.
Lavery made it 3-0 just six minutes into the second half when she
hit a direct kick from just outside the box past the keeper, and
PSU kept the visitors off the scoreboard all afternoon.
Plymouth State finished with a 16-6 advantage in shots.
LaBroad earned her second career shutout with five saves, while USM
keeper Allison Bradley (Auckland, NZ) finished with eight saves.
PSU is on the road for its next two games, beginning Thursday,
Oct.1, at Lyndon State College (4:00 p.m.) Southern Maine
