BOSTON, Mass. – Seniors
Terrell Lewis (New Boston, N.H.) ran his best time of the season to capture a New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) title in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday at the NEICAAA Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.
Lewis came into the competition as the eighth-fastest with a time of 8.33 seconds. In the preliminary round he overtook the field in his heat, crossing the line in 8.34 to qualify for the finals with the second-fastest time. He would then beat out the other finalists to win the title, breezing through his competition with a season-best 8.24 seconds.
"Today was very encouraging," said head coach
John Ostler. "Not only did Terrell get some great experience in a very competitive race, but he got back to running times he's accustomed to. A lot of work left, but we're always happy with a win and confirmation he's stronger as the season progresses."
Lewis' winning time bumped him up in the national rankings and is currently the eighth best in the country, putting him in contention for a spot at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships next month. Lewis remains atop the Little East Conference (LEC) and is third-fastest in the East Region.
Plymouth State is back in action at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 12) at Boston University. The meet begins at 10:00 a.m.
