LEESBURG, Fla. – Plymouth State University scored twice in the top of the sixth and loaded the bases with one out, but Thomas College was able to escape without further damage to hold off the Panthers, 7-2, at THE Spring Games on Sunday afternoon.
The Terriers used a five-run fourth to build a 6-0 lead, but Plymouth State clawed back in the late innings. With one away, senior
Madison Harris (Randolph, Mass.) ignited the rally with a single and senior
Emily Picard (Berlin, N.H.) and junior
Rachyl Parslow (Temple, N.H.) followed with back-to-back doubles to make it 6-2. PSU loaded the bases when everyone was safe on an infield grounder and error, but Thomas got out of the jam with a fly out and strike out.
The Panthers put the first two runners on in seventh but were unable to cut the lead down any further.
PSU's scheduled game against Emmanuel College was canceled due to scheduling issues with umpires.
Plymouth State slips to 2-3, while Thomas evens its record at 1-1. The Panthers will enjoy an off day tomorrow before getting back into action with a pair of games on Tuesday (Mar. 8).

How it Happened:
- Freshman Kaity Montelongo (South Paris, Maine) smacked a one-out single in the top of the first and stole second to get into scoring position but was stranded after a strikeout and foul out.
- Parslow got to third on a hit by pitch, sacrifice bunt and passed ball in the second, but a fine defensive play by the Terriers prevented her from scoring.
- Thomas used the momentum to take the lead with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the frame.
- The Terriers used a two-out rally to plate five runs in the bottom of the fourth, stringing together five straight two-out hits to extend the lead to 6-0.
- Harris singled with one down in the top of the sixth and Picard and Parslow ripped back-to-back doubles down the third base line to make it 6-2. Sophomore Abby Kenison (Boscawen, N.H.) reached on an infield grounder as the Terriers attempted to cut down the lead runner but everyone was safe.
- Sophomore Nicole LeBrun (Concord, N.H.) reached on a Thomas error to load the bases but the liner off the bat of freshman Alyssa D'Alessio (Pittstown, N.J.) was snagged by the center fielder and the Terriers avoided further damage with a strikeout to end the inning.
- Thomas added to the lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-2.
- Plymouth State battled in its final at bat as seniors Niah Colby (Lunenburg, Vt.) and Katie Burk (East Islip, N.Y.) singled to start the frame, but the Terriers were able to close out the game without allowing another run.
