BOSTON, Mass. – Senior
Mike Olson (Sutton, Mass.) and junior
Jyaire Hatcher (Uniondale, N.Y.) helped the Plymouth State University men's indoor track & field team lay down an assault on the record books as the Panthers set four program marks while competing at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University on Saturday.
Olson brought down the first of the day when he raced in the 800-meter run. He cruised to a 1:53.14, beating his own program record by over two seconds, and marking a season-best time by four seconds. Senior
Colin Moar (Annandale, Va.) and junior
Ryan Moyer (Dover, N.H.) also ran under the two-minute barrier with career-best times of 1:56.91 and 1:59.73, topping their previous bests by roughly four seconds. Senior
Luke Gomes (Litchfield, N.H.) and junior
Rovanee Nickson (Concord, N.H.) also represented in the event with times of 2:00.85 and 2:07.47.
Hatcher picked up where Olson left off, demolishing the school mark in the 400-meters with an astonishing 49.71, a time that was three seconds faster than his previous personal best. Sophomore
Christian Oglesby (Penacook, N.H.) followed with a three-second personal best of his own, crossing the line in 50.43 to win his heat.
The duo of Olson and Hatcher joined Oglesby and freshman
Josh Rebello (North Dighton, Mass.) to take down the 4x400-meter relay record in a time of 3:23.88, winning their heat by five seconds.
Senior
Ian Griffiths (Bedford, Mass.) capped off the day on the track with an impressive comeback campaign in his first 200-meter dash of the season. Griffiths crossed the line in a record-breaking time of 23.28 seconds, topping the previous mark by 0.22 seconds. He also added a performance in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.30.
Senior
Jacob Rigoli (Essex, Vt.) was the lone wolf in the field events as he appeared in the weight throw with a toss of 17.79 meters.
Senior
Brent Coope (Wolfeboro, N.H.) also raced the 1,000-meters with a personal best time of 2:38.07.
"I don't think I've ever been part of a day on the track where everything clicked," said head coach
John Ostler. "I've been very confident with our team's preparation and training so far this season and it was fun to watch it come together. There's more still to come next week."
The meet was non-scoring, and featured athletes from all three NCAA divisions.
Plymouth State hosts the Little East Conference (LEC) Championship at Bank of New Hampshire Field House next Saturday (Feb. 18).
