BOSTON, Mass. – Senior
Jacob Rigoli (Essex, Vt.) demolished the field to win the weight throw at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships at The TRACK at New Balance on Friday night.
Rigoli dominated the field with a heave of 17.98 meters to earn the New England title by exactly 0.40 meters. He is already a shoo-in for a spot at the NCAA Division III National Championship next month as his mark of 19.42 meters currently ranks third in the country.
Also representing Plymouth State during day one of competition was the distance medley relay crew of senior
Michael Barrett (Hartford, Conn.), junior
Ryan Moyer (Dover, N.H.) and sophomores
Connor Wilcox (Colchester, Conn.) and
Jacob Gallaher (Gambrills, Md.). The foursome placed 17th overall in a time of 10:58.76, more than ten seconds ahead of the previous best time this season.
The Panthers ended day with ten points to sit in a tie for sixth as a team. The championships conclude on Saturday (Feb. 25), with PSU having entrants in the 400-meters, 600-meters, 800-meters, 4x400-meter relay and 4x800-meter relay.
