PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Graduate student
Taylor Healey (Campton, N.H.) poured in four goals to break multiple program records as Plymouth State University knocked off Framingham State University, 5-1, in a non-conference field hockey game at Panther Field on Thursday afternoon.
Healey opened the scoring late in the second quarter, then gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the third. Framingham State pulled to within 2-1 just 12 seconds into the fourth quarter, but sophomore
Sarah Adamske (Windham, N.H.) restored the two-goal margin just over a minute later and Healey tacked on a pair of insurance goals just 28 seconds apart to account for the final score.
With her fourth goal of the contest, Healey moved past Hall of Famer Lilly Silva '06 to become the program's all-time leader in career goals (67) and points (156).
Plymouth State jumps to 8-6, while the Rams slide to 6-9.
The Basics:
- Plymouth State 5, Framingham State 1
- Plymouth State (8-6)
- Framingham State (6-9)
How it Happened:
- Plymouth State controlled the pace of play in the first quarter, but the Panthers were unable to get anything past the Rams' back line.
- Healey had a flurry of shots in the opening five minutes, but Framingham State's goalkeeper made three saves, and the defense cleared a certain goal off the goal line to keep the game scoreless.
- Framingham State made a rare rush into the shooting circle, but graduate student Emma Lord (North Reading, Mass.) stuffed the opportunity, and the Rams were unable to get a shot off.
- Late in the second quarter, Healey created some space with a move around a defender before firing a shot to the back of the cage and the Panthers took a 1-0 lead into the break.
- Healey doubled the lead 2:33 into the third quarter when she ripped a low angle shot off a defender's stick and in.
- Framingham State had a great chance to cut into the deficit midway through the frame when a long pass split the PSU defense, but senior goalie Piper Sherbert (Freeport, Maine) came off her line and blocked the shot down with her left hand to preserve the 2-0 lead.
- The Rams rushed downfield and tucked a shot just inside the right post just 12 seconds into the fourth quarter to pull within 2-1.
- Plymouth State came right back with heavy pressure, forcing four straight saves from the Rams' defense until Adamske batted down a bouncing ball to make it 3-1.
- Junior Ellie Monahan (Watertown, Mass.) slipped a pass to Healey, who was all alone in front. She whipped a one-time shot from eight yards out to the back corner to push the advantage to 4-1.
- Healey wasted little time etching her name into the record books. Graduate student Alessia Salzillo (Saugus, Mass.) lifted a restart high over the defense to Monahan, who made a quick pass to Healey just outside the circle. Healey carried the ball past the defender along the right side before snapping a shot to the far post just 28 seconds later.
By the Numbers:
- Healey's four goals were a season high and one shy of matching her career best of five, set in 2022. She's scored nine times over the last three games.
- Her 67 career goals are one more than Silva's previous record of 66. She also holds the career points record (156) by one over Silva's 155.
- Adamske's tally was her seventh of the season, while Monahan posted her second assist of the year.
- Sherbert needed just two saves to pick up the win and improve to 6-1.
- PSU held a 29-3 advantage in shots and 21-3 edge in shots on goal.
- Plymouth State has won each of the last 14 meetings against the Rams and leads the all-time series by a 23-2 margin.
Up Next:
- The Panthers carry a three-game winning streak into an important Little East Conference contest at UMass Dartmouth on Saturday (Oct. 26). Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
