PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore
Sarah Adamske (Windham, N.H.) and senior
Jenna Stowell (Londonderry, N.H.) both scored and graduate student
Kayla Antonucci (Windham, N.H.) made six saves, but it wasn't enough as Plymouth State University was nipped by Vermont State University Caselton, 3-2, in a Little East Conference (LEC) field hockey game at Panther Field on Wednesday evening.
The Spartans got on the board first for an early 1-0 lead. PSU answered back near the middle of the second quarter on Adamske's ninth of the season to tie the game and the score remained 1-1 heading into halftime.
PSU put pressure on the Spartans' defense early and often in the third quarter, sending multiple point-blank shots at the cage. The Castleton goalie was equal to the task, though, turning aside the Panthers' attack. The Spartans took the lead on a penalty stroke halfway through the third. PSU kept the pressure on but was unable to solve the Castleton defense as the score remained 2-1 after three.
The visitors added another one in the early stages of the final frame. PSU answered back on Stowell's fifth of the year late in the quarter to make it 3-2, but the Spartans were able to hold the ball to kill off the remaining time on the clock.
Following the game, Plymouth State honored Adamske and Stowell as part of the team's Senior Day celebration.
