SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore
Nick Savariego (Hillsdale, N.J.) picked up a win by fall to lead the Plymouth State University wrestling team at the NEWA Futures Tournament hosted by Western New England University on Sunday.
Savariego rebounded from a technical fall loss in his opening bout by pinning his next opponent at 133 pounds. He was one of four Panthers to earn wins on the afternoon.
Plymouth State finished 15th as a team with 10.5 points.

How it Happened:
- Savariego suffered a technical fall loss in his first bout of the day but came back strong to win by fall over his opponent from Trinity College in his second of the day. He finished 1-2 after losing by fall in his final bout of the day.
- Freshman Cam McMahon (East Hampstead, N.H.) dropped his opening bout at 125 pounds by major decision but rebounded with a 16-10 win. He suffered a technical fall in his final bout to end the day 1-2.
- Sophomore Ricky Perez (Londonderry, N.H.) picked up a win by decision, 12-6, in his first matchup of the day at 149 pounds but suffered losses in his next two bouts to finish 1-2 on the day.
- Wrestling at 165 pounds, freshman Will Pinto (Peabody, Mass.) won his opening bout by forfeit. He trailed by a 3-1 margin in the first period before his opponent suffered an injury and was forced into a medical forfeit to move into the quarterfinals. He came up short in a 5-0 decision to move into the consolation bracket, where he dropped another close bout by a 4-1 decision to go 2-2 on the day.
- Freshmen Andrew Maher (Melrose, Mass.) and Jon Picon Ruiz (Central Falls, R.I.), juniors Robert Tarasuk (Hampton, N.H.) and Carlos Barrios (Staten Island, N.Y.) and senior Evan Kramich (Lynnfield, Mass.) also competed for the Panthers.
