WORCESTER, Mass. – Graduate student
Chase Anestis (Belmont, N.H.) picked up a pair of victories, giving him 75 career wins, to lead the Plymouth State University wrestling team in a tri-meet against Rhode Island College and host WPI at the WPI Sports and Recreation Center on Saturday.
Despite Plymouth State falling to the host Engineers, 43-3, Anestis earned a 7-1 decision at 165 pounds. Junior
Ryan M. Fleming (Salisbury, Mass.) competed strongly at 149 pounds, falling by decision to Mason Basara, the seventh-ranked wrestler in New England at that weight class. Freshman
Hayden Durocher (Nashua, N.H.) came up just short at 125 pounds, losing a narrow 8-6 decision.
Against Rhode Island College, Anestis rolled to a 15-0 technical fall victory. Freshman
Sam Cowette (Bedford, N.H.) earned his first career win with a 9-4 decision at 184 pounds, though the Panthers fell to the Anchormen, 48-8.
Plymouth State (0-2) drops its first two duals of the season. WPI improved to 2-0 after eking out a one-point win over Rhode Island College, while the Anchormen now stand at 1-1.
